Setting Repeating Events In The Calendar (viewed 7883 times)

The OPTIMAL calendar is very flexible, allowing you to create almost any kind of repeating event. Shown below are the various types of repeating events you can use.

  1. Repeat every X number of Days, Weeks, or Months
This repeating event is simple to use and very handy- it makes an event that will repeat regularly based on a number of days, weeks, or months you specify.
    Every
For example, you may want to create an event that occurs every other weekend from Friday at 3:00pm to Sunday at 6:00pm. To make this kind of repeating event, enter '2' in the text box and select 'weeks' in the dropdown list. (You may also enter '14' in the text box and then select 'days' in the dropdown list- in this case it works out to the same thing.)
  2. Repeat on day X every X months
This event repeats on the same date (not day) every X number of months.
    On day every month(s)
For example, if you have a meeting on the 10th day every other month (that is, every 2 months), you would set the dropdown 'day' list to '10' and enter '2' in the 'months' text box. Entering a '1' in the text box would make the event occur every month on the same date.
  3. Repeat on the 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/5th of Xday every X months
    The every month(s)
This type of repeat event lets you schedule something that occurs on the same day (not date) of each month or every X number of months. For example, on the 2nd Sunday of each month, or the 3rd Tuesday every 3 months.
  4. Repeat on the same day of every year
    Every
This repeat type would typically be used for birthdays, anniversaries, or any event that takes place just once a year.
  5. Repeat on weekdays
    Weekdays
There's nothing complicated about this repeat type- it just shows your event occurring during the standard work week, Monday through Friday.
  6. Repeat on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th weekends
    1st, 3rd, and 5th weekends
This event is specifically designed to match parenting plans that specify "1st, 3rd, and 5th" weekends for the non-residential parent (the parent without primary custody). Although most parenting plans generally start a "weekend" on Friday and end it on Sunday, you can select any starting day and/or ending day you want.
  7. Repeat on specific weekdays
    Sun
    Mon
    Tue
    Wed
    Thu
    Fri
    Sat
    every week(s)
This event type allows you to select specific days of the week that your event will occur on, such as "every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday". You may also set the number of weeks between repeats (1 to 52).

NOTE: Events using this repeat type must occur within each day that you select and cannot span days. For example, if you have an event such as daycare that runs from 9:00am to 3:00pm each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, you could use this repeat type to create that kind of schedule.

You cannot use this repeat type for an event that would run (for example) from Monday at 3:00pm to Wednesday at 5:00pm, because that event would span more than one day.

Repeat Range

At the bottom of the Repeating Options panel you'll see this green date range panel:
This event should repeat between these dates:
Repeatfrom: until:

This controls when the repeating event starts and stops being active; that is, the dates during which it is allowed to occur. For example, you may have an event that repeats every two weeks, Friday at 3:00pm through Sunday at 5:00pm. You want this event to start its repeating cycle in March and continue every other weekend until October. To make the event repeat between March and October, set the Month and Year dropdowns in the date range panel to 'March' and 'October'.
